ABOUT

My name is Jake Schultz, I am the school counselor at Kegonsa Elementary. I believe that every child has the capability to succeed and it is my mission to help each child reach their full potential. I devote my practice to creating a sense of balance and purpose in every student. I focus on the importance of mental, physical, emotional and social health during all of my interactions with students. I have my undergraduate degree from UWSP in Psychology and my Masters in the Arts of Counseling from Lakeland Universaity. I am passionate about wellness, family and living life in the present moment.

As Kegonsa's school counselor I teach bi-weekly Social Emotional lessons to every classroom. I also meet with students individually and in groups on a variety of topics ranging from anxiety, family & peers issues and simply getting through the riggers of daily life. I have been apart of our District Equity team and used the Restorative Circle format in classrooms to discuss topics of race, acceptance, bullying and much more. I am also a part of Kegonsa's PBIS team, Leadership Team and am our Play60 advisor

I am married to my wonderful wife Alex for 10 years and we have a 1 year old named Brooks. We love to be outside and enjoy nature as much as we can.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

I take pride in having an open door policy with my students. Every student at Kegonsa knows they can come in and talk to me about any "in the moment" issues that may be causing them distress. I also have scheduled weekly meetings with students on a variety of topics ranging from anxiety, anger, impulse control, family change, grief and more.

Kegonsa's counseling department takes pride the the collaborative work it has done within the Stoughton District, the State of WI and across the Country. We are at the forefront of equity, mental health and SEL practices in our District and state. We have worked with Districts across Wisconsin, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania specifically on how we have combined the use of Zones of Regulation and SecondStep! curriculums.
